1.2 : Knowledge – Meaning, Types (philosophical: personal, procedural and propositional), sources (education: situational, conceptual, and strategic) and generation of knowledge. Distinction between knowledge and information, teaching and training, knowledge and skill, reason and belief.

1.3 : Modern Child-Centered Education, meaning and concept, Educational Thoughts on child centered Education of Mahatma Gandhi, Rabindranath Tagore, Swami Vivekananda( Indian Philosophers) Plato, Dewey, Buber and Freire ( Western Philosophers)

1.4 : Concept and use of Activity Method, Discovery Method and Dialogue Method.

Unit 2 : The Social Bases of Education 
2.1 : Concept of society, culture and modernity. Historical changes introduced by industrialization, democracy and ideas of individual autonomy.

2.2 : Understand education in relation to modern values like equity and equality, individual opportunity and social justice and dignity, with special reference to Babasaheb Ambedkar.

2.3 : Interrelationship of education with reference to Nationalism (Krishnamurti) and Secularism (Tagore)

2.4 : Concept, need and significance of ‘critical multiculturalism’ and ‘Democratic education’ in Indian education system.

Unit 3 : Development of Curriculum
3.1 : Curriculum: Meaning and concept, Relationship with Curriculum framework, difference from syllabus, types of curriculum.

3.3 : Professional support for curriculum development: Role of NCERT and Maharashtra Rajya Shiksha Parishad (Maharashtra state education council)

Unit 4 : Language Across Curriculum
4.1 : Language – meaning, concept, functions of language and process of language development. Home language and school language- similarity & dissimilarity, standard language vs. home dialects.
4.2 : Language diversity in classroom – Bilingualism and multilingualism
4.3 : Importance of oral language in the classroom. Importance of Questioning and Discussion based learning
4.4 : Techniques to enhance reading comprehension ( Scanning, Skimming, Columnar Reading and Key word Reading)
