Pragati Group is one of India’s oldest sources of authoritative
academic content with more than 4000 titles published till date. It is the most
trusted contributor of syllabus-oriented content customized for several schools,
colleges and universities in India. As such, it has a long history of
intelligent management policies and relentless on-ground efforts.
In 1974, Mr. Dinesh Furia established a retail bookshop in
Pune, a city in India. Then in 1976, catching the nerve of the student and
academic community, he ventured into the publishing and distribution of notes
written by professors and other academicians under the name of Pragati
Prakashan, helping them on the marketing front. The response that these
professionally printed and cyclostyled notes received, eventually led to the
formation of Nirali Prakashan in 1980. With this,
Pragati Group’s basic idea of becoming a full-range publisher began to
take shape. Since then Nirali Prakashan has grown as a
respected reference for students and researchers of Engineering, IT, Business
and Pharmacy.
Taking into account the need to add to the existing subject variety, the Group
took over Shubhada Saraswat Publication (1995), a small scale
publisher of literature, general reading books, dictionaries and other reference
material. In the same year, the Group entered into a joint venture with
Technical Publications, a specialist scientific content publisher,
wherein it took over the entire responsibility of distribution of their academic
material through an already strong network of dealers and fully-owned bookshops.
In 1996, Pragati Prakashan was renamed as Pragati Books
Pvt. Ltd. and made responsible for the entire book distribution
function of Nirali Prakashan, Technical Publications
as well as its own publications. Meanwhile, as the business was evolving,
Pragati Group strengthened its control over the printing and
production operations by entering into strategic partnerships with well-equipped
and highly efficient printing presses.
To leverage their expertise in education, the Pragati Group
diversified with Pragati InfoTech (2000), our software division
that specializes in customized software applications and Computer Based
Training. Another subsidiary called Pragati Constructions
(2002) has been into the commercial construction business through partnerships
with famous construction companies.
The most recent component of Pragati Group is Pragati ImpEx, a
global distribution arm that will handle the overseas circulation and other
import and export legalities. In order to reach closer to the global market, the
Group has also launched a website www.pragationline.com that
displays a comprehensive list of various other allied educational resources and
services beside the comprehensive catalogue of all its publications.
Starting from humble beginnings, today Pragati Group caters to
the academic needs of millions of learners in India and abroad.
